Feature: Review - Spooky Sounds

Music teacher Alex Bowen recently compered her fifth concert for her pupils, the Hallowe'en themed Spooky Sounds at Derby venue, The Voicebox.

In December 2009, local music teacher Alex Bowen decided to create a showcase for her students to perform publically, at Littleover Methodist church. The concert was a resounding success, and four subsequent concerts have since taken place at The Voicebox, on Forman Street near Derby city centre, most recently last Sunday.

The proximity to Hallowe'en provided the perfect theme for the evening, with performers dressing up as spiders, vampires, witches and a host of other scary creatures. Pupils ranged from primary school age to adult, and they treated the sell-out crowd to a wide range of music; from the Harry Potter theme to Beethoven and even several of Alex's own songs (composed specially for the occasion). A variety of instruments were used, but at centre stage was a grand piano, the instrument Alex herself is most known for excelling at.

There were plenty of spine-tingling moments throughout the evening, though these were caused by some enchanting musical performances rather than any supernatural being!
