News: iD Fest 2013 features industry talks

iD Fest, QUAD's film festival, features four Industry Talks as part of its programme of events.

Leading British writer and BAFTA nominated director Paul Andrew Williams will be part of a panel of directors discussing their experiences directing independent feature films in the UK. Directing Independent British Feature Films will be a panel discussion with Paul Andrew Williams (writer and director of Song for Marion starring Terence Stamp and Vanessa Redgrave and 2006’s London to Brighton). Other directors on the panel are: Johannes Roberts (director of Fand 2012’s Storage 24 starring Noel Clarke); Jake West (veteran director of Doghouse, The ABCs of Death andPumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes starring Lance Henrikson and Doug Bradley); and Dominic Burns (Derby born director ofAirbourne starring Mark Hamill and UFO starring Jean Claude Van Damme). Directing Independent British Feature Filmstakes place on Saturday 11th May at 4:00pm, tickets are £4.00.

A panel discussion entitled They Grow Up So Fast features advice from casting directors in how to source child actors, as well as tips on how to work with children across fiction and documentary films. The panel will consist of Tessa Livingstone, author of Child of Our Time and Executive Producer of the BBC series Child of Our Time as well as casting director Nicci Topping. They Grow Up So Fast takes place on Saturday 11th May from 11:30am, tickets are £4.00.

Crowdfunding is increasingly becoming an attractive avenue for filmmakers seeking to get their visions on screen. A panel discussion entitled Crowdfunding for Filmmakers will discuss the potential benefits and pitfalls of this exciting phenomenon. The panel will include Sarah McCarthy, director of The Dark Matter of Love; journalist and filmmaker Leah Borromeo and producer Ashley Jones. Increasingly Crowdfunding for Filmmakers takes place on Saturday 11th Mayfrom 1:00pm, tickets are £4.00.

Derby film makers Five Lamps Films will present a panel discussion about the freedoms and frustrations of making short films. Five Lamps Films’ Carl Bryan will gather a selection of regional filmmakers to talk around topic. Five Lamps Presents: Making Short Films takes place on Sunday 12th May at 6.30pm, entry is free.

Five Lamps Films also feature within iD Fest with their Five Lamps Films 24 Hour Film Challenge, a showcase screening of three-minute short films shot and edited over a 24 hour period.  Five Lamps Films 24 Hour Film Challenge Showcase screens on Sunday 12th May 9:00pm, entry is free.
