Event: Antonia Grove performance of Small Talk at Déda

Date:  9th Nov 2012: 8.00pm

Contemporary dance icon Wendy Houstoun creates new show Small Talk for Antonia Grove

On Friday 9 November, Antonia Grove of Probe Dance Company performs Small Talk at Déda, a full length solo choreographed for her by contemporary dance icon Wendy Houstoun.

In Small Talk, Antonia embodies the personae of a series of American movie actresses whose words are fed to her through earphones. In a succession of staged attempts, she persistently tries to fulfil the chameleon’s desire to be all things to all people. As she becomes increasingly illusive and unpredictable, we witness her rollercoaster journey through states of control, being controlled and losing control in this brave, compelling, funny and darkly disturbing performance.

“It is virtually impossible to take your eyes off Grove... this mistress of disguise will set your pulses racing” Bristol Culture

“She really is good... You can't take your eyes off her.” **** Evening Standard

Since 1980, prolific contemporary dancer Wendy Houstoun has worked extensively as a solo performer and has become a mentor and model for a generation of artists. Small Talk is the first time Wendy has choreographed for another dancer. Antonia Grove has danced for renowned companies including Random Dance, Bonachela Dance Company and The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs. She has twice been nominated for the Critics Circle National Dance Awards, and for a Time Out Live Award. She featured in the Observer’s listings of twenty-something overachievers. Antonia founded the award-winning company Probe in 2004.

Tickets for Small Talk are £10 (£8 concession) and are available from the Déda Box Office on 01332 370911 or online at www.deda.uk.com.
